Kit for Simple Mini Outriggers for Sailing Canoes/Dinghies

These Mini Outriggers are fitted to sailing canoes to increase the stability. They are not meant to be sailed on full time. But are to provide a moment or two more stability if there is an unexpected gust or wave.

Experienced sailors can feel more confident when sailing adventurous routes.

Beginners can use them as “training wheels” if they use them to learn how to keep the outrigger hulls out of the water most of the time.

Mini Outriggers for sailing canoes.

Our kit and plan make it easy and the building process is simple because the number of parts is very small.

The concept works because the short and low volume hulls can use a single crossbeam that clutters up the canoe or dinghy much less than having two crossbeams.

Video of Other Mini outriggers that inspired us to create this design

This is the video that inspired us to create the mini outriggers. You can see the wonderful performance of the Kombi Sail and Paddle Canoe in light winds. But the inflatable mini outriggers keep dragging one end in the water. Very annoying for an experienced sailor.

The aim is to keep the small hulls out of the water so the canoe sails completely normally. The wooden hulls mounted to the flat crossbeam will do that efficiently.

Beginners and Experienced Sailors can benefit

  • Experienced sailors can feel more confident when sailing adventurous routes.
  • Beginners and Intermediate sailors can use them as “training wheels” if they use them to learn how to keep the outrigger hulls out of the water most of the time.

If wanting the additional stability and security of full time sailing on the outriggers please see our
